A's Accents Every now and then you run across one of those system glitches that no one, and I mean no one, seems to be able to fix. That was my dilemma. As a poet/writer, I compose a great deal of my work at the computer and thought I was doing the right thing by transferring documents onto my external hard drive. Axon Styrotech Neuse River Networks was brought in to look at our overall network infrastructure and security. After an initial analysis using a tool that he installed, we found that our workstation users were not updating their workstations as they we supposed to be doing. Many of our workstations were months out of date on security patches and updates. Jim was given a contract to help bring and keep all the machines up to date. Through weekly reports, we were able to track continuous improvements and when manual intervention was required. After 2 months of weekly patching, most of our machines are current and secure. We have some special requirements on certain machines (no SP3), and this has not caused any problems. Jim created multiple groups that allow different patches to be rolled out to these machines. In all Neuse River Networks has made it much easier to know the status of our workstations and keep them up to date without operator intervention.
